FAQ

  • Who must comply with the radionuclides monitoring requirements?
    • The radionuclide rule is only applicable to community water systems with sampling to be conducted at all entry points to the distribution system.
  • What are the maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) as set under the radionuclide rule?
    • Uranium = 30 ug/L
    • Combined Radium 226 & 228 = 5 pCi/L
    • Gross alpha = 15 pCi/L
    • Beta/photon emitters = 4 mrem/yr
  • What is the monitoring frequency for radionuclides?
    • Based on initial monitoring data, monitoring frequency is 1 sample every 9 years; 1 sample every 6 years; 1 sample every 3 years; or 1 sample per quarter until results from 4 consecutive quarters ≤ MCL.
