State Clean Diesel Grant Program

The NDDEQ will continue to award Clean Diesel Grant funds for eligible school bus replacement projects on a first-come, first-served basis until all FY 24 funding has been allocated. Please contact the NDDEQ for more information. Additional projects awarded with FY 24 funding will need to be able to be completed by September 30, 2026.


The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, through the US Environmental Protection Agency, reviews grant applications and awards funds for the replacement of old diesel-powered school buses and trucks with new cleaner diesel-powered vehicles. The Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) of the Energy Policy Act of 2010 allocates funds to states to implement projects that reduce diesel emissions. These replacements are being conducted utilizing North Dakota’s annual DERA funding.


The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, through the US Environmental Protection Agency, issued $375,034 in awards to the following recipients for the replacement of old diesel-powered vehicles and school buses. These replacements are being conducted utilizing North Dakota’s FY2023 DERA funding.
