What is ADA document remediation?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act require that government documents be accessible to all users, including those who rely on screen readers, magnification software, or other assistive technologies.

Many older PDF and Word documents were created before these standards were widely adopted. Remediation is the process of updating those documents — adding proper headings, alt text for images, reading order, and other accessibility features — so that everyone can use them equally.

The North Dakota DEQ is committed to making all of its documents fully accessible. We appreciate your patience during this process.
